3-in-1 Horizontal Top-Bar Hive KIT Unassembled
Hive construction:
These hand-crafted artisan hives are not outsourced, but are carefully and lovingly assembled by the founder of our apiary, Edina .
Constructed from robust 2" untreated pine lumber, these hives provide maximum insulation and protection for your bees, ensuring durability.
The raised metal roof delivers rain protection and optimal airflow over the bars during the summer, while also allowing for the addition of insulation material in the winter, making them among the best-insulated hives available. (2" lumber provides twice the insulation of the 1" grade wood used in Langstroth or other top-bar hives, and it is 50% more insulating than 1" cedar.)
The roof can be secured in place using supplied ties, strong magnets, or weights. Additionally, an easy hinged option is also available.
The recommended standard for bars is 19"-20" long.
Bars measuring 17" or shorter, such as Dean Cook’s or Phil Chandler’s models, should be avoided as they result in deeper and narrower combs that are prone to collapsing and attaching to the side walls more frequently.
Entrance holes can be closed using wine corks or entrance disc reducers.
Each hive compartment includes 3 guide top bars for starter guides, totaling 6 bars.
To populate your Top-Bar Hives, it is recommended to purchase a Langstroth NUC, a package of bees, or a 19" Top-Bar NUC. Ensure to ask us for the correct dimensions.
Most providers treat their bees with potentially toxic pesticides that the bees cannot survive without. It is recommended to use local Treatment-Free stock instead. Ensure to ask your provider if they are Treatment-Free.

Please kindly note: you will need to assemble the hive yourself with 8 x 2" screws and 18 x 4" screws - T-25 Hex recommended. On-site assembling services are available in selected locations. Please contact Edina for an on-site assembling appointment.

These unique Horizontal Hives enable a more natural and attentive approach to beekeeping, resulting in abundant harvests of liquid honey, comb honey, and beeswax.
They promote calmer, healthier bees and more content beekeepers compared to traditional Langstroth boxes, while aligning with the bees' natural instincts over industrial practices.
Featuring double insulation, they provide superior thermal mass and enhanced thermodynamics compared to vertically oriented, thinly walled Langstroth boxes.
With a maximum weight of 8lbs, there is no heavy lifting involved, unlike the 90-100lbs typically associated with Langstroth hives.
There is no requirement to store multiple boxes of supers and drawn comb during winter, or bulky extractors.
These hives simplify beekeeping for everyone, including individuals with disabilities, children, and retirees.
Can host 1 extra large or 2 regular sized colonies
A pre-installed removable partition so you may raise either 2 separate colonies to increase the size of your apiary faster OR adjust to one big colony for increased honey production. Each side has separate entrances that can be corked up as needed.
